Very off-putting experience a lovely Saturday afternoon. We arrived at the main gate and headed to the visitors centre according to directions when we heard someone shouting behind us. It turned out a woman followed us shouting at us asking if we were planning to buy tickets. We told her we weren't sure yet, we wanted to see the centre and prices as well. She said she could tell us the prices and said we needed to purchase tickets if we wanted to visit. We said okay and wanted to head to the visitors centre again. The woman insisted and kept asking if we wanted to buy tickets. We said we would decide at the centre. She kept telling us we had to buy tickets if we wanted to buy tickets, we said we understood. She still held us up and still kept asking if we wanted to buy tickets. At this point my friend decided this was not a welcoming experience and turned away. We told the woman it was really weird the way she behaved. She said by paying was the only way to maintain the site. We said that was not a problem but her behaviour was really weird. She didn't stop others questioning like this, she somehow seemed to pick us for some reason. I wonder how many other people turned away from visiting the site because of weird behaviour by staff. Maybe a public relations training would be appropriate for this staff member. I don't think I would try to visit again as this was a negative experience right at the main entrance.

Excellent, different from your normal 'homes' / palaces as it's got a twist of the owners art deco styling which makes it unique. Lovely grounds to see as well.

Great experience visiting Eltham Palace this weekend. Highly recommend visiting, especially if you enjoy Art Deco architecture. It really is stunning.
Volunteers at the palace are engaged and passionate, and it is fascinating to learn about the history of the building and the characters who inhabited it.

This home is a lovely visit for a retro revival, the family that bought it brought it back to life with all the “modern” elements of the time and it is such a beautiful revival of the time. Small but beautifully redone!
The tea room on site has great scones and tea, with small wood play area for kids.
Great garden in spring and summer with plays and activities at peak times like Halloween. 🎃
Note- Do advise you get the English heritage membership if you can this gives you access to several sites and free parking at the sites over the year it saves a lot more than a one time entry

A cold February afternoon is a great visiting time. A few visitors but we felt that we could enjoy Eltham’s luxurious art deco vibe built around the frame of the old palace.
Incredible use of woods and veneers and recessed lighting.
We enjoyed the bedrooms and bathrooms with bespoke features that in the 30’s must have been sumptuous and radical.
Surrounding gardens beautifully kept. Finished trip with sale price goodies from the well stocked shop.
